Roberta W. Nelson, 87, of Superior, died Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at Villa Marina Health and Rehabilitation in Superior.
She was born in Superior on February 17, 1932, the daughter of Ernest and Elsie Waite.
Roberta Waite and Richard K. Nelson were united in marriage on August 18, 1956 in Superior.
She earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin Superior and was a teacher with the Superior School District. Roberta started her teaching career at Patzau Elementary and retired from Pattison Elementary.
Roberta was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, PEO Chapter AD-BG for 50 years, Douglas County Historical Society, UWS Alumni Association, Superior Chapter 252 Order of the Eastern Star, and the Retired Teachers Association.
She enjoyed gardening, playing piano, reading, and crossword puzzles. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.
Roberta was preceded in death by her parents; husband; mother and father-in-law, Margaret and Knute Nelson.
She is survived by her children, Laurie Nelson Franks of Superior, Lynn (Dexter) Nelson of Superior, and Richard (Amy) Nelson of Ladysmith, WI; grandchildren, Jamie (Jesse) Ferkingstad of Superior, Katie (Matt) Hedberg of Hermantown, Hannah Nelson of Superior, Erik Nelson of Cartersville, GA, Jonathan Nelson of Ladysmith, WI, and Taylor Nelson of Ladysmith, WI; great-grandchild, Ivan Hedberg; siblings, Jack and David (Diane) Waite, both of Superior; and many extended family.
Roberta's service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 28, at Faith United Methodist Church, 1531 Hughitt Avenue. Visitation one hour prior. Rev. Joel Certa-Werner officiating.
Donations may be made to the Roberta Nelson Scholarship Fund. This will be set up in her name for a student from Superior High School attending UW-Superior for Elementary Education.
The family would like to thank the staff at Villa Marina for their kind and loving care of Roberta.
