Obituary

Rodney Arlie Lahti, 90, of Oulu, WI passed away on Monday, June 22, 2026, with the loving staff at Twin Ports Health Services in Superior, WI.

Rodney was born October 24, 1935, to Harvey and Olga (Mattson) Lahti in Ashland, WI.

He graduated from South Shore High School in 1953. Rodney married Mary Ann Tyykila on June 14, 1958.

He was employed for the DM&IR Railroad for 43 years and served on the school board and as a town chairman.

Rodney was the proud father of the “Oulu Hotshots” Archie, Leroy, and Glenn Lahti. Later when Archie went sailing on the Great Lakes, they welcomed neighbor, William “Bill” Kangas who played drums and sang like an angel; Leroy and Glenn harmonizing their accordions with Bill’s talents. They played all over at Finn Fests, area weddings, performing in Finland and produced a few recordings. Rodney enjoyed playing drums occasionally with the band and acquired the name “The Old Buck”.

He was a passionate deer hunter and enjoyed hunting with his sons and extended family hunting crew. Rodney enjoyed fishing and working on his trails in the woods.

Rodney was a Finn and looked forward to spending time at the Wednesday Oulu Heritage coffee clutch and meeting the guys at the bakery to socialize. He loved travelling with his wife, Mary Ann and taking trips with his children and grandchildren.

Rodney was preceded in death by his parents and children, Terry, Leroy and Glenn Lahti.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Mary Ann; his children, Archie (Kathy) Lahti, and Lisa (Mark) Hokkanen; his daughter in-law, Toni Lahti; his grandchildren, Ashley, Nick, and Tiiara Lahti and Kaylee Hokkanen.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 68160 S. George St., Iron River, WI., with Pastor Matt Dietsche officiating. A luncheon will follow the service in the church. Inurnment will be in Hillside Cemetery at a later date.
