Roger J. Hunter, 78, longtime Superior resident, who lived in Minneapolis for many years and most recently in St. Cloud, passed peacefully Sunday, December 29, 2019, surrounded by family in St. Cloud, MN.
Roger was born on Feb. 6, 1941, the son of Ruth (Shaul) and Alfred 'Frank' Hunter. He graduated from Central High School with the class of 1960, where he participated in Choir and Drama.
Roger was a successful chef and bartender at some of the finest restaurants in the Duluth/Superior area. Later in life he put his green thumb to good use in the greenhouse preparing special orders at Bachman's Floral in Minneapolis. He had many pastimes and interests over the years, including reading, singing, crossword puzzles, knitting, bowling, plant care, camping, being outdoors in the sun, fishing and boating, cooking and baking, playing cards, watching old musicals, watching football and crafting woodworking projects with his bother Pete. Most of all he loved spending time with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Bob, Myrtle 'Sis', Harold, Joanne, Donna, Daryle 'Pete', and Fran; former wife and friend, Kathy Hunter; and best friend, Darrell Rasmussen.
He is survived by his daughters, Terri (Gregg) Jauert of Burnsville, MN, Dori (Marc Sr.) Lane of Superior, Jodi (Kelly) Fritz of Blaine, MN; and Ronni (Dean) Wick of St. Cloud, MN; grandchildren, Brandon, Kathryn, Marc Jr., Beau, Cassi, Amanda, Dean Jr., Dalton, Jonathon, and Juliann; 8 great-grandchildren; brothers, Richard (Kay) Hunter and Ralph (Joyce) Hunter; former wife and friend, Susan Hunter; special friend and nephew, Tommy Burhans; and many nieces, nephews, pets and grandpets.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 11 th from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. memorial service at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N 19 th St. Superior, with Fred Flatten officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery.
