Obituary

Roger A. Lambert, 79, lifelong resident of Superior, died Wednesday, November 7, 2018, at Essentia Health- St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth.

He was born in Superior on February 1, 1939, the son of Walter 'Bud' and Elizabeth Lambert.

He graduated from East High School in 1958 and then earned his Bachelor's degree from University of Wisconsin Superior. He served his country in the Air National Guard.

Roger married Roxanne 'Roxy' Westphal on June 12, 1971 in Hayward, WI and they celebrated 47 years of marriage.

He was a social studies teacher for 32 years at Central Junior High.  He coached basketball and football for 28 years. Roger was a member of the Superior Elks Lodge #403 and the Superior Masonic Lodge #236.

Roger was an avid golfer, hunter, and fisherman.  He enjoyed sports, especially all Wisconsin Teams and Coach Bobby Knight. He liked to dance, and his favorite music was anything by Frank Sinatra. He was an avid historian and statistician. His years coaching and many of his former players were very special to him. Roger still loved to talk about his winning seasons and reminisce with them. He loved traveling especially his trips to Hawaii.  Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter, Timika.

Due to health issues for the last several years, Roger's ability to do many things was limited. It was an illness that should have taken him years ago. But his loving wife, daughter and son in law encouraged him to continue to fight the battle. But it was without doubt that his granddaughter Timika was his main reason for living. He lived to see her play basketball – the game he loved, graduate from high school, and go to college. Always her biggest, proudest fan and supporter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant twin sister, Mary Abbott Lambert; and cousin, Dennis (Mabel) Hoey.

Roger is survived by his wife, Roxy; daughter, Stacey (Jerry) Miner of Superior; granddaughter, Timika Miner; and cousins, Kathleen (Rick) Taylor of Kenosha and Denny (Eva) Hoey of Kenosha.

His visitation will be on Sunday, November 11, from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N 19 th Street.
