Obituary

Roland W. Noyes, 93, of Superior, WI died on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at Twin Ports Health in Superior.

Roland was born at the family homestead on the shores of the St. Croix River in Rusheba Township near Rush City, MN July 31, 1932, to Bessie (Norris) and Alanson Noyes.

When Rolly was three years old his mother contracted tuberculosis and passed away in 1937 at the Ah-Gwah-Ching Sanitorium Hospital. He went on to live with his grandfather, John Henry Noyes, until 1950. Rolly enlisted in the US Army April 26, 1950, and completed his basic training at Camp Carson Colorado. He was deployed to Korea where he served as a truck driver and worked with the Medics transporting solders and bodies. Rolly received two campaign ribbons for his 13months of service during the Korean War. He was extremely proud to have served his county. Following his service to his county he returned and worked at Weyerhaeuser’s Lumber Company as a forklift operator for 34 years.

Roland was a life member of the VFW and a longtime member of the American Legion. He was an outdoorsman that enjoyed hunting and fishing. Roland was passionate about old classic cars and loved to tinker and fix cars, trucks, or anything with a motor.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Marion (Hanson) Noyes; his daughter, Carrie Jo Noyes; his brother, Russell Noyes; his stepbrothers, Loren “Butch” Noyes, Darwin “Pudge” Noyes, and Terry Noyes; his special friend and companion Marlene Doyle.

Roland is survived by his daughters, Tamara Christensen, and Tracy (Ross) Bertilson; his sons, David Noyes, and Dave Snelling of Spokane, WA; his stepsister, Rayola Labarge; his stepbrother, Dale Noyes; his grandchildren, Adam (Tiffany) Pepple, and Aaron (Vanessa) Pepple; his great granddaughters, Savanna and Presley Pepple and numerous special nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday June 6, 2026, at Greenwood Cemetery in Superior, WI. Military honors accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435.
