Rolland Plunkett, 88, died peacefully Wednesday, December 11, 2019, at Solvay Hospice House in Duluth surrounded by his loving family.

He was born November 1931 in Superior to Samuel and Mary (TePoel) Plunkett, where they lived in Cloverland on the family farm.

Rolland graduated from Cathedral High School.  He married Joan Malmquist in June 1953.  They made their home in Superior where they raised 5 children.

Rolland was a United States Postal Service mail carrier for 34 years, a sexton at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery for 22 years, and an employee at Calvary Cemetery.

He was a Cub Scout leader, a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers, a 3 ^rd Degree Knights of Columbus #499, Moose Club #606, a treasurer for the Superior Postal Credit Union, communion minister and usher for St. Francis Xavier Church, and a cook for the church's roast beef dinner for over 40 years.

Rolland was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  He was a hardworking, loving, kind, gentle and dedicated family man with a great sense of humor.

Rolland is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Joan; daughters, Sue (Ernie) Swartz and Debbie (Michael) Laurent; sons, Pat and Jim (Julie) Plunkett; son-in-law, Brian (Vici) McCusker; grandchildren, Carrie (Matt) Lein, Amanda Plunkett, Crystal Plunkett, Jennie (Bryan) Tribbey, Sara (Miles) Ursin, Andrew (Molly) Swartz, Amy (Beau) Thurman, Paul (Kristen) Swartz, Austin Laurent and Taylor Laurent; great-grandchildren, Maceo Blasey-Plunkett, Elizabeth and Allen Lein, Kadence and Kaylee Larson, Gabe and Pearl Tribbey, Nevaeh Trader, Samuel Swartz, and Natalie Thurman; brother, Dennis (Barbara) Plunkett; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Janine McCusker; and grandson, Brett Plunkett; brothers, Dick, Bob, Samuel Virgil, and Bill; and sister, Eugenia.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, December 16, 2019, at St. Francis Xavier Church, 2316 E 4 ^th Street, with Rev. Fr. James Tobolski as celebrant.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Andrew Swartz, Paul Swartz, Austin Laurent, and Taylor Laurent; great-grandsons, Maceo Blasey-Plunkett, and Allen Lein.

Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters, Carrie Lein, Crystal Plunkett, Jennie Tribbey, Amanda Plunkett, Sara Ursin, and Amy Thurman.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Superior.
