Romelle J. Shepard, 88, of Superior, died Wednesday, January 20, 2016, at Essentia Health-St. Mary's Medical Center, Duluth, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born November 28, 1927 in Superior, daughter of Gerald and Selma "Sally" (Moe) Thiele, and was a longtime resident of Superior's East End.

Romelle was a devoted mother and grandmother who cherished the times her family spent together. The grandchildren will always cherish the memories of their many summers at the cabin with grandma and grandpa. She also enjoyed gardening, knitting, crocheting, cooking and canning.

Her memberships included United Presbyterian Church and American Legion Auxiliary.

She married John R. Shepard on August 16, 1947.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, John R. Shepard in 2005; and brother, Raymond Thiele.

Survivors include her sons, John (Pat) Shepard, Jr., Superior, William (Sue) Shepard, Solon Springs, and Timothy (Sue) Shepard, Superior; daughter, Sally (Richard) Benson, Apple Valley, Minnesota; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; sister, Yvonne Stark, Two Harbors, Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 10 until the 11 a.m. service Monday, January 25, 2016, at United Presbyterian Church, 229 N. 28th Street, Superior. Reverend Joel Huenemann will officiate.

Active pallbearers will be Steve, Gerald, Scott, Tim and Andrew Shepard, John, David and Ryan Benson. Honorary pallbearers will be Kelly Deyo, Stephanie Shepard, Katie Rose Penney and Amy Kline. All of the pallbearers are Romelle's grandchildren.

Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Superior, followed by a luncheon at the church.
