Roy L. Roen, 65, of Hawthorne, Wis. died Sunday, June 27, 2010 at his residence.
Roy was born in Superior, Wis. on September 7, 1944, the son of Otto and Ruth Roen.
He graduated from Northwestern High School, Maple, Wis. in 1963 and served his country in the Air Force from March of 1965 to October of 1968 during which he was stationed in Japan.
In the 1980's Roy drove his Model A from Hawthorne to Alaska. He spent many of his years in Hope, Alaska doing various jobs as a handyman and panning for gold. He enjoyed living off the land.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Richard and Bruce.
He is survived by a daughter, Kirsten; sisters, Virginia (Ernie) Strum of Nekoosa, Wis., Diane (Harold) Olson of South Range, Wis. and Pam Turman of Hixson, Tenn.; brothers, Len (Susie) Roen of Tehachapi, Calif. and Pete (Renee) Roen of Roscoe, Ill.; a half-brother, Bob Roen of Harker Heights, Tex.; sister-in –law, Sue Roen of Chicago, Ill.; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Hawthorne Town Hall on Friday, July 2, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. Downs Funeral Home corner, of 19th St. and Ogden Ave. is assisting the family with arrangements.
