Ruth M. Williams, 94, of Duluth, went running to Jesus on February 15, 2014 at Essentia-St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth.
Ruth was born in Plankinton, SD, on Oct. 28, 1919 the daughter John and Anna Marie Roberts.
She had worked for many years at UMD in vending and the mail room. She also welcomed foreign exchange students from UMD into her home for the holidays when they had nowhere to go. She was a member of Central Assembly of God Church since 1975 and Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Proctor for 17 years prior. She taught 4 and 5 year olds in Sunday School and Rainbows for about 30 years. She was also a 4-H leader.
Ruth enjoyed crocheting, reading and doing crossword puzzles.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph F. Williams in 1988; step-son, Robert F. Williams; step-daughter, Shirley Everly and her husband Richard; son-in-law Donald Granholm; grandson, Bobby Williams; three brothers, Gerald, Franklin, and George Roberts; and two sisters, Pearl Marino and Joyce Kangas.
Ruth is survived by a daughter, Jeanie Granholm of Cloquet; three sons, Joseph (Sharon) Williams of Traverse City, Mich., John (Debbie) Williams of Superior, and Roy Williams of Duluth, Minn.; 13 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 19 great-great grandchildren, and one great-great-great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Tues. Feb. 18 from 5-8pm at Downs Funeral Home, corner of 19th St. and Ogden Ave. Visitation will resume on Wed. Feb. 19 from 10 until the 11am funeral at Central Assembly of God Church, 3000 Hammond Ave. in Superior. Rev. Thomas Miller will officiate. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
