Scott Alan Campbell, lifelong resident of Superior, Wisconsin, entered into eternal rest Saturday, September 25, 2010 in his home surrounded by his family and fellow officers after a brief, but courageous battle with cancer. He was 56 years old.

Scott was born on July 7, 1954 to LeRoy "Al" and Leone (Mast) Campbell. Although, he was an only child, his first cousins were like siblings to him.

Scott graduated from Superior Senior High School in 1972, where he wrestled competitively. After high school, he attended WITC- Superior and studied electronics. In 1974, Scott began his 33 year long law enforcement career working for the Douglas County Sheriff Department. He was hired by the Superior Police Department on July 26, 1976. He moved through the ranks while serving on the SPD; he was an Officer, Sergeant, Captain, and retired on December 31, 2007 as Assistant Chief of Police. While serving on the SPD he was an active member of the Wisconsin Professional Police Association, serving as Board Member and State Association Board of Director; he attended many WPPA State Pistol Competitions, he always brought home trophies; he was a firearms instructor; founding member of the SPD's tactical Emergency Response Team; Board Member of the Murphy Oil Community Action Panel; and was involved with many other community organizations throughout his career. After retiring from the SPD, Scott went back to work part time as a Bailiff for the Douglas County Sheriff Department.

On May 14, 1983, he married Susan Ennis at Cathedral of Christ the King Church in Superior. They celebrated 27 years of marriage with their two children Meagan, 23, and Stephanie, 19. He was a devoted husband and father who extolled the values of honor and integrity to his family and those around him, much like his own father.

Scott loved being a police officer and helping others as much as he could. He enjoyed spending time with his girls, laughing with his friends, trap shooting, competitive shooting competitions, four-wheeling, and annual trips to Las Vegas. His family was so grateful to have him in their lives, especially after his first battle with cancer 5 years ago. He had a clean bill of health up until August 2010, so time with him was never taken for granted. While his wife, Susan, had her own battle with cancer in the Fall of 2009, he was an amazing caregiver and helped her beat the disease.

He is survived by his mother, Leone Campbell; wife, Susan; children, Meagan and Stephanie; mother-in-law, June Roeben; sister-in-law, Debra Hart; brother-in-law, Robert (Donna) Ennis; along with many nieces and nephews; his first cousins, Len (Peggy) Campbell, Barbie (Bruce) Edwards, Cindy (Rob) Downs, and Laurie (Karl) Siehs (of Menomonie Falls, Wisconsin; and aunts, Barbara Campbell, Delores "Tootie" Hursh and Myrt Knezevich.

He was preceded in death by his father, LeRoy "Al" Campbell; brother-in-law, John Ennis; fathers-in-law, Gene Roeben and Jack Ennis; uncles, Leonard "Pick" Campbell, Robert "Bobby" Campbell, Rudy Mast, Orville "Shorty" Hursh, and Duke Knezevich.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, September 30 at Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church in Superior, with a scripture service to be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume at 10 a.m. Friday, October 1 at Cathedral and continue until the 11 a.m. Memorial Mass with Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci as celebrant.

Active pallbearers include Chuck LaGesse, Brian McDonough, Kevin Mikel, Rick Berchild, Len Campbell, Tim Schultz, John McKenzie, and Paul Johnson. Honorary pallbearers include current and retired members of the Superior Police Department and the Douglas County Sheriff Department.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Cathedral of Christ the King or the American Cancer Society.
