Obituary

Seija Sinikka Tasaranta Amundson, 88, of Superior, died Wednesday June 10, 2020 at her residence with family.

She was born in Somero, Finland on June 24, 1931 to Esteri (Kajaani) and Mauri Tasaranta.  At age 20, Seija immigrated to the US. She married Albert Amundson on December 3, 1953 and celebrated 60 years with him before his passing in 2013.

A talented tailor, she began her career at Granfor's, spent many years at Ekstrom's, then retired from McGregor Soderstrom's. She was an active member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, well known for her baking skills, knitting, and sewing.  Communion bread, cinnamon rolls, cardamom bread, Finnish pancakes and cookies were her specialties.  She enjoyed playing cards, especially Oklahoma, and dancing with her husband Al.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; son, Paul Amundson; brother, Felix and infant twin sisters.

Seija is survived by her daughters, Darlene (Gary) Van Kauwenbergh of Fitchburg and Dianne (Mark) Tomczak of Foxboro; grandchildren: Jack (Jennifer) Van Kauwenbergh, Brad (Jennifer) Van Kauwenbergh, Amy Van Kauwenbergh, Greg (Rebecca) Trettin, Jennifer (Chad) Johnstad, Ryan (Meghan) Amundson, Rachel Tomczak, and Josh Tomczak; great-grandchildren: Ben, Elizabeth, Leah, Lilianna, Max, Olivia, Gracie, Kalani, Kylie and Taylor; nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a funeral service at Our Saviors Lutheran Church will be scheduled at a future date. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

The family fulfilled Seija's fervent wish to remain home with the help of Essentia Hospice team.
