Shawn E.
Hickok
December 19, 1964 – October 4, 2022
Shawn E. Hickok, 57, passed away on October 4, 2022, at Solvay Hospice House in Duluth.
She was born in Duluth, Minnesota on December 19, 1964, the daughter of Harley and Lila Hickok.
Shawn was raised on the family farm south of Superior, where she and her family raised fine Arabian horses.
Shawn could be seen working her chestnut gelding rain or shine in preparation of an upcoming show. After graduation from Superior Senior High School, she obtained her cosmetology degree and joined her mother at the newly built and opened salon, La Peinado Hair and Skin Care.
As time passed, Shawn's adventurous spirit led her to explore several other vocations, including completing her studies as an EMT, owning and operating a uniform store, driving an 18-wheeler, but nursing became her passion. She worked as a tracheostomy specialist for many years as she studied for her master's degree, which would have been completed later this year.
Shawn served in the Army National Guard and was on active duty during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Her love of the Sonoran Desert led her to live in Tucson, Arizona for the past eight years.
She was preceded in death by her father, Harley Hickok.
Shawn is survived by her mother, Lila Hickok; her son, Alex Hickok, her aunt, Sheila Johnson, who was raised with her from an early age; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be from 11:00 until the noon service, Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at Darrow Road Wesleyan Church, Superior.
Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Superior.
Pallbearers will be her son Alex Hickok, her uncle Todd Roeber, her cousins Shane Hickok, Casey Kukull, Anthony 'Tony' Kukull, and family friend Vincent DeLuca.
A special thanks to Maricel Vieweg, nurse at the Veteran's Hospital in Tucson for the tender care and love she gave Shawn while she was there. Thank you to Maricel for coming to Solvay and staying at her bedside to comfort her.
A special thanks to Solvay Hospice House for the amazing physical and spiritual care you gave Shawn and family.
