Shirley J. Wiskerchen, 78 of South Range, passed away after a long battle with cancer on Friday, January 11, 2013 at Solvay Hospice House surrounded by her loving family.
Shirley was born in Thief River Falls, Minn., on Mar. 6, 1934 the daughter of Victor and Blanche Kooyer.
Shirley is survived by her husband Peter of 63 years; three children, Mary (Terry) Noyes of Superior, Steven (Trish) Wiskerchen of McHenry, Ill., and Sandy (Gordy) Wallgren of Superior; grandchildren, Anita Treakle, Karen Nevin, Angela Miles, Joseph Piludu, Nicholas Piludu, Vanessa Leuer, Jacklin Wallgren and Curtis Wallgren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; brothers and sisters, Barbra Granroth, Betty VeVea, Raymond Kooyer, James Kooyer, Doris Rindahl and Debbie Dean; an aunt, Dorothy Morehouse; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Richard, Donald and Glenn Kooyer; and an uncle, Walter Morehouse.
She worked for the Superior School District as a Bus Driver for over 20 years.
Shirley enjoyed camping and fishing, spending time at the cabin in Minong and going to flea markets. She was a member of the TOPS club. She was the oldest of ten children and family was most important to her.
Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 16 at Noon at Downs Funeral Home, corner of 19th St. and Ogden Ave. Rev. Richard Blood will officiate. Visitation will begin one hour prior. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
