Signe Victoria Back, 90, of Superior, Wis. died Monday, January 3, 2011 in her home.
She was born in Superior on July 10, 1920 as Signe V. Peterson, and was one of two brothers and five sisters.
She graduated from Superior Central High School. Signe left Superior for a short time during World War II.
Signe worked in Milwaukee, Wis., where she met and married her future husband, Harley J. Back.
She returned to Superior, and returned to school, where she studied accounting and graduated from the Duluth Business School. She spent her most memorable working times in the business office at Holy Family Hospitals (the former St. Mary's and St. Joseph's Hospitals in Superior).
Signe was preceded in death by her husband, one brother, five sisters and infant twin siblings.
She is survived by two sons, Randy (Janet) Back of Superior and James C. (Arlene) of Houston, Tex.; grandchildren, Brittney, Janelle and Megan all of Superior; a brother, Clarence "Pete" Peterson; and many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by many neighborhood children and extended relatives, to whom Signe was affectionately known as "Grandma Back".

A memorial service will take place on Monday at 2:00 p.m. in the Downs Funeral Home, 19th & Ogden Ave., with Chaplin Gary Meller officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
