In Loving Memory of Spencer Lowell Thompson
With profound sadness and broken hearts, we announce the passing of Spencer Lowell Thompson, age 15, who passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 10, 2026.
Spencer was born on September 22, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth, Minnesota, to his loving parents, Veronica (Bobby) Bunnell Tenney and Cory Thompson.
Born with Timothy Syndrome, Spencer faced challenges throughout his life with remarkable strength and resilience. Yet those who knew him best remember not his condition, but the incredible young man he became. Affectionately known as "Spanky" by his grandfather and Uncle Doodle to his niece Eevee and Nephew Emmett, Spencer was smart, funny, kind-hearted, and full of life. He had a quick wit, an infectious sense of humor, and a way of making people smile no matter the circumstance.
Spencer embraced life wholeheartedly. He loved collecting playing cards and learning to play Texas Hold'em, quickly picking up the game and proudly adding poker chips to his growing collection. He also enjoyed collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia and treasured the unique items he found along the way.
A devoted fan of Fallout, Spencer collected bottle caps and loved both the game and television series. One of his favorite memories was enjoying a homemade Nuka-Cola created by his big brother Joey, specially made without lemon because of Spencer's allergy.
Spencer loved riding his bike, "NO HANDS MOM!" feeling the freedom of being able to simply be a kid. He enjoyed listening to music, talking with neighbors, and recently discovering classic rock bands like AC/DC, Nirvana, and Metallica, something that made his dad especially proud.
Camping with family and friends was one of Spencer's greatest joys. Whether gathered around a campfire, spending time with his best friend Ihana, affectionately known as "Pickles," or hanging out with Anakin, his camping "bro," Spencer was happiest when surrounded by the people he loved.
He was also passionate about playing Fortnite with friends on his PS5 and spending countless hours laughing and making memories. Home was his safe place, especially his room, where he could be himself completely. His family fondly remembers his mischievous sense of humor, including the times he somehow managed to swear in his sleep, only to laugh, in disbelief when his mom told him about it the next day.
One of Spencer's favorite activities was playing Dungeons & Dragons with his older siblings, Ashlie and Joey, his brother-in-law Damien, and friends Jake, Darion, Gavin, and Anthony. They loved teasing him, helping him create unforgettable characters, and sharing adventures together. Spencer always took the jokes in stride and was never afraid to laugh at himself. The family finds comfort knowing he was able to celebrate his big sister Ashlie's birthday with them during their final D&D session together, a gathering he never would have wanted to miss.
Spencer shared an extraordinary bond with his little sister, Madaleah "Madde" Thompson. She lost more than a brother—she lost her best friend, her person, and her most trusted confidant. Their bond was unspoken yet unbreakable. Whether helping her find the courage to pay for something herself, helping her order a steak at their favorite restaurant, or simply being there when she needed him, Spencer gave her confidence and comfort. Their relationship was filled with love, laughter, and the kind of connection only siblings understand. Madde's familiar "I love you, bro" was often met with Spencer's playful "Whatever," but beneath those words was a love that kept them inseparable.
Spencer had a special bond with his mother, Veronica. He convinced her to watch The Walking Dead show with him, and what began as hesitation became one of their favorite things to enjoy together. Whenever she was sad, Spencer would sit beside her, hold her hand, offer a hug, or simply listen. He would come to her as if he could sense his mom's tears.. Even at 15 years old, he had a remarkable ability to comfort those he loved. Veronica will forever cherish those moments and forever remember her little spanky doodle.
Spencer was a beloved son, brother, uncle, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend.
He leaves behind his loving mother, Veronica (Bobby) Bunnell Tenney; his father, Cory Thompson; his siblings, Madaleah "Madde" Thompson, Ashlie (Damien) Fairbanks Tenney, Joey Tenney, and Destiny (Jesse) Thompson; his cherished nieces and nephews, Eevee and Emmett, who lovingly knew him as "Uncle Doodle," and Masie; grandparents Dennis and Beverly Thompson, Ronald and Barb Bunnell, and Jeannie Hennigar; along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and friends who loved him dearly.
Though Spencer's life was far too short, he lived it fully. His laughter, kindness, courage, and love touched countless lives. The memories he created and the love he shared will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
He will forever be missed, forever be loved, and forever be remembered.
Our family chain is broken, nothing feels the same, but as God calls us one by one, our chain will link again.
A Celebration of Life for Spencer will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Whispering Pines Church in Hawthorne, Wisconsin. Family and friends are welcome to attend as we gather to honor, celebrate, and remember Spencer's life.
