SUPERIOR
Stanley Joseph Brown, Jr., 78, of LaBelle, Florida and Wascott, Wisconsin, died January 5, 2010 in LaBelle.
He was born November 20, 1931 in Superior, son of Florence (Berg) and Stanley Joseph Brown, Sr.
Stanley graduated from Superior East High School in 1949.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1949 to 1953.
On October 5, 1953 in Superior, Stanley Joseph Brown, Jr. and Marjorie Bradley were united in marriage.
He retired from the City of Superior after 37 years as an equipment operator and blacktop foreman.
While residing in Superior, he was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Superior Curling Club, Eagles Club, Softball Association, and he would play baseball in the Vacationland League. Later in life he learned and enjoyed the game of golf.
During his many years with the City of Superior, he and Marjorie would spend many weekends on Whitefish Lake near Wascott. Following his retirement in 1990, they moved to Wascott and would spend six months there and six months in Florida.
In Florida he was a member of the Moose Lodge, American Legion and Veteran of Foreign Wars.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Marjorie; and daughter, Kelly.
Survivors include his daughter, Diane (Stuart Peterson) Corbin, Lake Nebagamon, Wis.; son, Stanley "Joe" Brown, III, Superior; grandchildren, Kristin (Kyle) Gunderson, Houston, Texas, James Brown, Superior, and Tara Corbin, St. Cloud, Minn.; great-grandchildren, Anna and Fisher; brother, Albert (Joyce) Brown, Ft. Myers, Florida; sister, Beverly (James Sackett) Richmond, Ft. Myers, Florida; sisters-in-law, Bessie (LeRoy) Johnson, Wascott, Wis., and Barbara Brown, Poplar, Wis.; brother-in-law, Paul (Diane Nelson) Garrity, Superior; and several nieces and nephews.
Stanley loved flower gardening, cooking, and cheering for the Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers.
Visitation will be from 3 until the 4 p.m. memorial service Saturday, June 19, 2010 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Superior.
Inurnment will be at the Gordon Memorial Cemetery, Gordon.
Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th Street, Superior, is assisting the family with local arrangements.
