Stanley George Milinkovich, 83, of the Village of Oliver, Wis. died Wed., April 29, 2015 at Solvay Hospice House, Duluth, Minn. with his family at his side.
He was born to Ann (Fister) and Steven Milinkovich on June 15, 1931 in Chicago, Ill. and moved to the area as a young child.
Stanley was married to the former Helen Alice Petrie on Nov. 11, 1950 and enjoyed 59 years of marriage and enjoyed living in Oliver since 1956.
Stanley was retired from US Steel. He was an avid outdoorsman from small to big game hunting. Fishing the St. Louis for walleye's to crappies, which was only a few yards from his back door and truly enjoyed fishing the "Big Lake" for trout or salmon. He also enjoyed snowmobiling and ATV riding with his buddies or just spending time in the woods to be at one with Mother Nature. Camping at the Gordon Dam was one of his favorite places to spend time with his family.
Barbecuing deer, lamb and pork, to smoking fish in his homemade smokehouse were some of his many talents. He also enjoyed relic hunting and taking home movies of family events. Mostly he enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Stanley loved a wide variety of music, among his favorites were the Tamburitzans and the Singing Slovenians, as well as many original country artists.
Stanley is lovingly remembered by his children, Susan (Robert) Martorano of Superior, George of Duluth, and Brenda of Superior; his grandchildren, Dr. Jason (Carol) Martorano, Paul (Dr. Susie) Martorano, Raeanna Martorano all of San Jose, Calif., USN Commander Steven (Racquel) Milinkovich of Middleton, Tenn., Nick Milinkovich of Superior, Fallon Milinkovich of Duluth, Mycole and Raechel Connor of Superior; great-grandchildren, Logan Balduc of Duluth, Madison Milinkovich of Lake Geneva, Wis., Kaleb and Noah Roberts of Proctor, Minn., Amelia, Isabella and Noemi Martorano and a step-great-granddaughter, Mercedes Navarro all of San Jose, Calif.; brothers, Donald Milinkovich of Anoka, Minn. and Matthew, Thomas and John Milinkovich all of Superior; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Helen on Jan. 10, 2009; sisters, Frances and Josephine; and brothers, Joseph and Steven.
His memorial service will be in Downs Funeral Home, corner of Ogden Ave. & 19th St. on Fri., May 8th at 1:00 p.m. with Chaplain Ronald P. Henely, Spiritual Care Coordinator of Essentia Health-St. Mary's Hospice officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the hour of service.
