Obituary

Stanley 'Stan' T. Kahn, 68, of Superior, died Sunday June 7, 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer, at Solvay Hospice House in Duluth.

Stan was born in Duluth on June 16, 1951 the son of Rosemary (Coburn) and Stanley Kahn.

He was a standout baseball player at Duluth Denfeld graduating with the class of 1969. He went on to play with the West Duluth Legion and then played on scholarship for Iowa State before transferring to UMD.

He worked for the DMIR Railroad as a Yard Master and Conductor for 25 years.

Stan loved sports. He had season tickets to UMD Hockey for 24 years, followed the Minnesota Twins, the Vikings and the Wild. He enjoyed going out with Gwen for a beer, socializing, and watching the game. He adored and lived for his grandsons; they were the light of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Stan is survived by his wife Gwen, who have been together for 25 years; daughters, EmilyJane (JakePatrick) Coughlin of Superior and Kayla Grills of Superior; grandsons, Brayden and Wyatt; sisters, Lori (Fred) Kolb of Minnetonka; brother, Bob Kahn of Duluth; Aunt, Anita Kahn of Duluth; nieces and nephews, Amie Hanson and Dane (Brooke) Hanson; great niece and great nephew; Tori and Cole; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Margaret and Tom Patnaude; sisters-in-law, Laura Young and Mary (Darian Pionk) Patnaude; brother-in-law, Dave (Paulette) Patnaude and their children, Tisha and Matthew Patnaude; and many extended family.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 15 th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N 19 th St. Visitation will resume on Tuesday, June 16 th from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Funeral Mass at Cathedral of Christ the King Church with Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci as celebrant.

A Celebration of Stan's Life will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at the Capri Bar from 1-3 p.m.

If desired, memorials in Stan's name may be made to Duluth Denfeld Athletics.
