Steven D. Austreng, 68, of Coon Rapids, MN, died Tuesday, December 24, 2024, after a lengthy illness.

Steve was born in Superior on Feb. 17, 1956, the son of George and Eleanor (Tempelis) Austreng. He graduated from Superior Senior High School with the class of 1974.

Steve married Donna Maynard on October 20, 1984, and they recently celebrated 40 years of marriage. He was a proud dad and grandpa, who loved spending time with his family and seeing them grow and flourish.

He worked for almost 40 years for the Soo Line and CP Railroad retiring as Chief Clerk. He had a quick, witty sense of humor and keen, well-known ability to come up with nicknames for people that stayed with them forever. Steve enjoyed watching baseball and football, especially the MN Twins and Vikings. Earlier in life he was delighted to own a beautiful blue Corvette. You could often find him detailing it in the driveway. He loved riding his John Deere tractor and looked forward to a good snowstorm so he could blow snow for the neighborhood.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gregory 'Jaws' Austreng; nephew, Tom Krause; father-in-law, Oryle Maynard; mother-in-law, Beverly and Bob Shears.

Steve is survived by his wife, Donna; son, Nicholas (Amanda) Austreng of Woodbury, MN; three grandchildren who he loved dearly,  Elsa, Theo, and George; sisters-in-law, Jody Austreng, Debbie (Randy) Skowlund, DeeDee (Kirk) Krause, Barb (Kim) Krause, and Patty (Chuck) Paton, all of Superior; many nieces, nephews, extended family and longtime friendships including neighbors, and railroad buddies.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 6, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. memorial service at Downs Life Celebration Center, 1902 N 34th St, Superior, with Gary Banker as officiant.
