Obituary

Steven Lewis Jankowski, 70 of Cloquet died Monday, April 21, 2025 with his family by his side at St. Lukes Hospital.

Steve was born on July 30, 1954 in Duluth the eldest child of Edwin and Jane (Lewis) Jankowski. He graduated from Cloquet Senior High School in 1972 and was honored to deliver the 50th Class Reunion Speech in the summer of 2022. Steve attended the University of Minnesota, graduating in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science degree in mortuary science.  He began his funeral career working with Hasara Funeral Home in Lakefield, MN. In December 1983, he moved back to Cloquet to co-manage Barr Brothers Funeral Home.

Steve met the love of his life, Linda Moody, and they were married August 5, 1978 at Zion Lutheran Church in Princeton, MN.  They were blessed with two daughters, Sarah Jane and Anna Lynn.

In August of 1990, Steve left funeral service to pursue his Registered Nurse degree at the College of St. Scholastica, graduating Cum Laude. This led to a position with the State of Minnesota, the Department of Human Services, as well as the Department of Corrections, both located in Moose Lake, MN.  Steve retired as an emergency RN at Cloquet Community Memorial Hospital.

Steve enjoyed time spent as a drummer with the musical group Gramps with Amps, and the praise and worship music team at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Cloquet.  He loved family time at Big Lake, Steve was an accomplished water skier – barefooting and flying the kite for the Big Lake Water Ski Association during the shows.  Steve was proud that he taught his daughters to waterski and downhill ski so they could enjoy lifelong sports.

He was involved as president of the Lakefield Jaycees, a member of the Bicentennial Kiwanis, Wood City Riders Snowmobile Club, and United Way.  Steve loved to deer hunt, and spending time tinkering with his electric trains and slot cars.  He and Linda were passionate about being on the water; they enjoyed many trips on their Searay camping in the Apostle Islands, Voyageurs National Park, and Lake of the Ozarks.  He didn't find much time to relax.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Jane, and Edwin Jankowski.

He is survived by his loving wife, Linda; his daughters, Sarah (Rajhiene Butler) Jankowski of Lincoln Park, NJ and Anna (Matt Brenner) Jankowski of St. Louis Park, MN; one grandson, Edwin Steven Brenner; his brother, Joseph (Karla) of Scandia, MN; his sisters, Louise (Dwight) Kruse of Maple Grove, MN and Patrice (Sarah Lehto)    Jankowski of Jericho, VT.
