Susan Kay Carlson, 86, of South Range, died on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at Aspen Health and Rehab.

Susan was born on December 7, 1938, in Montana, the daughter of Phyllis (Peterson) and Melvin Block.

On June 28, 1957, Susan K. Block and Gerald W. Carlson, Sr. were united in marriage in Duluth. They enjoyed 35 years of marriage until Gerald's passing in 1992.

Susan was employed as a cook at Northwestern High School and was also the clerk for the Town of Hawthorne.

She was a member of the Superior Seventh Day Adventist Church, and was head elder for over 20 years. Susan was also a member of the Hawthorne Florabunda Garden Club and won many awards at the fair for her flowers. Susan was in her happy place when working in her gardens and while cooking as shown by her memorable whistling.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerald Sr.; son, Gerald W. Carlson, Jr.; and sisters, Betty, Carol, Rachel, Barbara, and Linda.

Survivors include her daughter, Rebecca (David) Johnson of South Range; son, Richard (Cherree) Carlson of Jackson, Louisiana; daughter-in-law, Janna Carlson of Springfield, Tennessee; grandchildren, Ricky (Emilie), Eleisha, Vincent (Charisse), Kiyah, Kristen (Ray), Susan (Mitchel), and Shaylynn; great grandchildren, Hunter, Kymber, Kylee, Damon, Kaiden, and Alayna; and numerous other nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 24 from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1028 Cumming Ave., Superior. Pastor Jeff Veldman will officiate.

The burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hawthorne.
