Obituary

Thomas A. Higgins, Jr, 78, of Superior, died Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at Essentia St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth.

Tom was born in Superior on May 1, 1947, the son of Thomas and Ada (Rossetter) Higgins, Sr. He graduated from Cathedral High School with the class of 1965.

Tom served his country in the US Army with the 1st and 25th Infantry Divisions. He medically retired from the Army due to wounds he received in the 25th Infantry Division in Vietnam.

Tom worked for the BN Railroad as a switchman and yardmaster, retiring after 42 years. He earned his bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of WI Superior.

He was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepdaughter, Jami Lubas; and brother-in-law, Dave LaValley.

Tom is survived by his wife, Mary Higgins; son, Corey Higgins; stepdaughter, Sue Lubas; grandchildren, Kain Walberg and Kaylee (Josh) Vanhornweder, great grandchildren, Abella and Alivia Vanhornweder; sisters, Margaret (Dave) Hoadley and Mary Jo LaValley; former spouse, Diane O'Keefe; and many nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 25th at 11:00 a.m. at Cathedral of Christ the King Church, 1111 Belknap St., with Fr. Andrew Ricci as celebrant. Visitation will begin one hour prior.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435.

Pallbearers will be, Kain Walberg, Kaylee Vanhornweder, Jessica Cronin, Jeffrey Hoadley, Anne LaValley Wood, and Matt LaValley.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Tom's name may be made to Cathedral School, 1419 Baxter Ave., Superior, WI 54880.
