Obituary

Thomas R. Kubarek, 60, of Poplar, died Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at his residence.

He was born April 18, 1950 in Superior, son of Joseph V. and Lorraine E. (Naeyaert) Kubarek.

Thom served in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971.

On June 17, 1972, Thomas Kubarek and Joan Mihalak were united in marriage at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Lake Nebagamon, Wisconsin.

Thom's work history included Bob's Trucking and Excavating and P. V. Foods, both of Poplar, and Memorial Medical Center, Ashland.

He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Superior, a former volunteer and programs director at Fairlawn Museum and had served on the board of directors of Wentworth Co-op Services.

His special interests included various types of learning, reading, writing, woodworking, gardening, fishing and traveling. Thom was known by many for his willingness to always lend a hand and that he loved the Lord with all his heart and soul.

Thom was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife of over 38 years, Joan; sons, Christopher (Andrea) Kubarek, Superior and Joshua (Maggie) Kubarek, Lake Nebagamon; 7 grandchildren, Morgan, Tanner, Dane, Brock, Hannah, Allyson and Aubrey; brothers, Richard (Nancy) Kubarek, Gilberts, Illinois, and Harry (Sue) Kubarek, Superior; and many aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.

The visitation will be from 10 until the 11 a.m. service, Saturday, July 10, 2010 at Central Assembly of God, 3000 Hammond Avenue, Superior, with Reverend Thomas Miller officiating.

Pallbearers will be Don Mihalak, Ryan Mihalak, Chuck Pattee, Virgil Nelson, Bruce Carlson and Anthony Serena.

Following the service, a luncheon will be served at the church, and the family invites everyone to attend.

After the luncheon, the committal service will be at Poplar Cemetery, with military rites accorded by the Superior Combined Color Guard.

Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th Street, Superior, is assisting the family with arrangements.
