Obituary

Thomas Edward Thompson, Jr., 76, a lifelong Superior, Wis. resident died peacefully on Tues., Dec. 7th, 2010 at the Villa-Marina Health and Rehabilitation Center with his loving family at his side. Tom fought a long courageous battle with cancer for the past 2 ½ years.

He was born May 2nd, 1934 to Anita E. (Krieps) and Thomas E. Thompson, Sr.

He is survived by his wife, the former Shirley Jane Miller. Their beautiful love story began fifty-four years ago at the Itasca ice skating rink. They were united in marriage on Feb. 7th, 1956 in Superior.

Tom is also lovingly remembered by a daughter, Lavonne M. (Edwin A.) Crummy of Abrams, Wis.; a son, Edward T. of North Branch, Minn.; two grandchildren, Lila R. Harkoff and Maxwell T. Midbon both of Green Bay, Wis.; two step-grandsons, Eric and Kurt Crummy of Green Bay, Wis.; a great-grandson, Thomas C. Forsch of Green Bay, Wis.; a brother, Gene S. (Royann) Thompson of Ft. Mills, N. C.; a sister, Joan E. Tubbs of Columbia S. C.; several nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

Preceding him in death were his parents and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Florence and Charles Miller.

He was a thirty-eight year employee of the city of Superior, retiring in 1989 from the Parks and Recreation Department. He was a member of the AFSCME Union Local No. 244.

In his younger years he enjoyed deer hunting. He had a great love of reading, especially being a historian of his Scottish heritage. He enjoyed his dream vacation in 1992, a family trip to Scotland.

Visitation will be Fri., Dec. 10th from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and will resume at 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. hour of service on Sat., Dec. 11th in the Downs Funeral Home, corner of Ogden Ave. & 19th St. Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci, Rector of Cathedral Of Christ The King will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Richard and Terry Gondik, Raymond Midbon, Brian Leuthner, David Lambert, Jr.; and Dennis Gunderson. The committal prayers will be held at Greenwood Cemetery.

The family would like to express a "special thank you" to his primary physician, Dr. John VanEtta; the St. Luke's Oncology Dept.; the Infusion Dept.; St. Luke's Hospice and the Villa-Marina Staff for the wonderful care and kindness shown both Tom and his family. Shirley, Lavonne and Ed would also like to send a "loving thank you" to Tom's sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law for all the love shown them during this difficult time and for the endless kindness and constant support given them.
