Obituary

Timothy Raymond Hendry, 57, of Superior, Wis. died Mon., May 30, 2011 in Solvay Hospice House, Duluth, Minn. following a courageous battle with cancer.

Tim was born August 26, 1953 in Superior, Wis. to Lois Joy (Baldwin) and Charles Raymond Hendry and remained a lifelong resident.

He played on the Superior Senior High School baseball team and graduated with the class of 1971. On August 30, 1971 he enlisted in the U. S. Navy where he served his country until June 1, 1975. After his military service he attended University of Wisconsin-Superior and in 1980 he received his Bachelor Degree in Political Science. He continued his education at UWS working on a Masters Degree. He also played on various city softball teams.

On June 22, 1978 he started his twenty-eight year career with the Superior Police Department, retiring on August 26, 2006 with the rank of Master Police Officer. In November following his retirement he worked as a bailiff for the Douglas County Sheriff's Dept. until the summer of 2010. He also enjoyed driving for Black Tie Limo.

In the First Covenant Church on September 12, 1981 he was united in marriage to Jennifer Jean Hofstedt. His life revolved around his family and his love of sports centered around his two boys activities. He coached his sons in Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball. He lived for watching them participate in their sports; baseball, football and hockey. He also enjoyed fishing and golf.

He attended Our Savior's Lutheran Church, was a former member of the Wisconsin Professional Police Association Local No. 27 and a former member of the UWS Veteran's Club.

Tim is lovingly remembered by his wife of almost 30 years, Jen; sons, Ryan (Erin) Hendry and Nathan Hendry all of Superior; his mother, Lois Hendry of Superior; a granddaughter, Riley McGrath of Superior; four siblings, Ruth, Charles "Chuck", and Steve (Beth) Hendry all of Superior and Jon (Evelyn) Hendry of Gwinn, Mich.; a sister-in-law, Elyse (Tom) Strapple of Hermantown, Minn.; nieces and nephews, Josh, Billy, Sarah, Emily, Nicole and Brooke Hendry, Kelsey Krob, and Nicole and Dan Strapple; and his faithful companion, Mugsy whom he enjoyed walking on the Millennium Trail.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles.

The Superior Police Honor Guard will be present at both the visitation and funeral service.

Active pallbearers will be Tom Goligoski, George Graskey, Bill "Simba" Bombich, Rick Gilbertson, Dan Bourassa and Todd Yjranianen. Honorary pallbearers will be active and retired members of the Superior Police Department and the Douglas County Sheriff's Department.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in Our Savior's Lutheran Church on Thurs., June 2 and will continue on Fri. at Noon until the 1:00 p.m. funeral service with Rev. Sarah Kerkes officiating. Committal prayers will take place at Greenwood Cemetery followed by Military Honors accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post No. 435.
