Obituary

Timothy J. Sandor, 77, of Superior, died Wednesday May 27, 2026, at his residence surrounded by family.

Tim was born in Ashland, WI on May 14, 1949, the son of Anthony and Theresa (Misuraco) Sandor. He graduated from DePadua High School in Ashland and went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in molecular biology from UW-Eau Claire.

Tim married Adeline Kolberg after meeting while both were traveling in North Africa, and they celebrated 46 years of marriage until her death in 2019.

He worked as a Medical Technologist for Superior Memorial Hospital and later Essentia from 1975 until 2014. He taught phlebotomy at Lake Superior College for many years. Tim also freelanced as a financial planner earning his financial planning certificate from Florida State University in 2002 and was a tax prep volunteer for many years at the Superior Public Library through Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA).

Tim loved to run and had competed in 120 marathons in his life. He was in the 50-state club, running at least one marathon in every state and also ran marathons in France, Hungary, and Canada. He had a lifetime membership at Grandma’s Marathon and was part of the Marathon Maniacs Club. He ran ultra marathons, including one from Duluth to Ashland and was a 5-time competitor in the Birkebeiner Ski Race.

Tim enjoyed music, especially playing the piano. He was the founder of the Lake Superior Ragtime Society and served on the board in multiple office roles. He also played the accordion and loved to entertain at family gatherings. He was a longtime patron and supporter of the arts.

As a scientist he appreciated nature and would observe and take notes about the animals, birds, and plants that surrounded him. He adored his cats he had over the years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Adeline; son, Joseph; and sisters, Susan Pratt and JoAnne Sandor.

Tim is survived by his son, Alexander (Kathryn) Sandor; grandchildren, Natalie and Oliver; siblings, Sandy (Tom) Williams, Tony (Alberte) Sandor, Jean Jablonski, Mary Anne (Larry) Foley, Betsy DeDecker, Terry (Mike) Boren, and Mike (Dianne) Sandor; brother-in-law, Dave Pratt; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Visitation will be held on Saturday June 27th from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Cathedral of Christ the King, 1111 Belknap St., with Fr. Anthoni Reddy Yannam as celebrant. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
