Obituary

Tormod Clausen, 98, of Superior, died Wednesday May 27, 2020 at Twin Ports Health and Rehab Center.

Tormod was born in Steinkjer, Norway on August 31, 1921 the son of Tina (Andreasen) and Karl Clausen.

He began working from the age of 9 at a farm tending cows before and after school. At 14 he finished school and could return home and started working in a furniture company. He served in the Norwegian Army during WWII. He escaped to Sweden and worked as a lumberjack. When the war was over he returned to his hometown in Norway. He emigrated to the U.S. in 1948 through New York and settled in Proctor being sponsored by his sister, Julianne. He sailed on the ships firing coal in Norway and also on the Great Lakes. He went on to cement finishers school and became a cement mason. He worked in the local cement mason union doing concrete work on many of the major buildings in the area. He retired at the age of 63.

Tormod loved driving Studebakers and owned 3 of them during the 1950's. He enjoyed dancing and singing and met his wife Virginia at a Sons of Norway Party. They were married on June 8, 1963. He also enjoyed bowling. Most important to him was spending time with his family.

He was a member of the Sons of Norway, Eagles Club, and the Cement Mason's Union.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Virginia in 2012; and siblings, Einor, Julianne, Johan, Ingrid, Agnes, Konrad, Ingemar, and Magne.

Tormod is survived by his daughter, Sharon Kelekovich of Superior; stepdaughter, Beth (Jim) Holmes of Wascott, WI and their children, James, John, Michael, Christine, Heather, Kirsten and Jim and grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews in the U.S., Canada, and Norway.

A private family service will be held at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N 19 th St. Gary Banker will officiate. Burial will be in the Swedish Lutheran Cemetery in Bennett.
