Obituary

Troy Irven Magnuson "went ashore" for the second time, for the last time on Monday, January 13, 2025, at 4:23 p.m.

He was born to Irven and Virginia Magnuson in St. Cloud, MN on January 14, 1956. He grew up on the homestead farm in Kimball, MN. When Troy was 8, the family moved to Litchfield, MN. During his high school years, Troy and his best friends, Tom, Paul, and Greg— 'The Four Mags'—taught themselves how to repair and replace car engines by using the tree as a hoist in his parents' front yard. He finished school by graduating from Litchfield, MN in 1974.

In 1976, Troy decided he needed a career that had both potential and gratification. He went to see the Marine recruiter in Willmar. When the Marine office was empty, he sat down with the Navy guy. For the next 30 years, he served the United States Navy with honor and dignity, much of the time under water in the 'Silent Service'. Troy was a man of great integrity and loyalty. He retired with the rank of Senior Master Chief.

I think Troy's friends will agree that he was a very funny man… you just had to pay attention. Since he was also a master of practical jokes, it was always in your best interest to pay attention.

He was a very curious man. If he didn't know the answer, he'd apply good old-fashioned research and find out. If he forgot the answer, he'd go back and find out again. If he made a mistake, he would learn from it and 'never do that again'! I learned a lot from Troy, and I pray that God will let me keep the memories.

Troy was a member of Moose Lodge 606 in Superior for many years. He was the Governor at the time our Lodge burned. He and a few others who are almost all gone now, literally brought it back from the ashes. He was administrator of both Superior and Proctor Moose. He was the ER of Superior Elks Lodge for two terms. He was also Veterans committee chair for many years. Troy was a proud member of American Legion Post 435, and it was his gift to serve on their Honor Guard.

Troy was preceded in passing by his mom and dad, Irven and Virginia.

Troy was such a good Dad and Grandpa to all our children and grandchildren. We all feel his absence in our own way, for many reasons, with our own memories to back them up. Troy left us to navigate our own lives with the benefit of all he had to share.

Troy is survived by his son, Rob and Lisa DiMauro and their children Chris, Jake and Andrew of Fort St. Lucie, Florida; daughter, Trish Blanco and her children Angelo and Lorenzo of Land O' Lakes, Florida; his wife, Colleen; son, Rob and Danielle Lahr and their children Tim, Austin, Cassie, Kaelyn, and Lauren of Superior; son, Christopher and Carrie Lahr, and their children Callisto and Eros of Superior; daughter, Amber and Milo Hartley and their children Mac, Myles, Malek and Matai of Solon Springs, WI; daughter, Tiff and Jo Lahr-Moore and all their four-legged 'Kids' too numerous to name; his brother, Tagg and Mamie Magnuson of Litchfield, MN and their children Kelsie and Kara; his sister, Michelle Magnuson and Scott Kochs of St. Bonifacius, MN; and his brother, Thad and Stacie Magnuson and their children Kaitlyn, Mikayla and Jenna of Longview, TX.

A Celebration of Troy's life will be held at Superior Elks Lodge, 1503 Belknap Street, on Saturday, March 8th from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 10th at 10:30 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery Veterans Square with military honors to be provided by American Legion Post 435 Honor Guard. He left his mark on Superior.
