Obituary

Vernon S. Coone, 70, a longtime resident of Superior, Wis. died Fri., Aug. 26, 2011.

He was born in Hibbing, Minn. to Verna and Ernest Coone on Dec. 14, 1940.

Vernon was a 1959 graduate of Central High School and had been a member of the Wisconsin National Guard from 1960 to 1964. He was activated to Fort Lewis, Wash.

He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Kay Brown; three sons, Brian of Osceola, Wis., Steven (Mellisa) and Gary all of Superior; a sister, Ernestine (Carl) Norman; five grandchildren and three nephews

He enjoyed riding motorcycles, his current being a Yamaha V Star 650. He loved being outdoors with his family whether it was camping, fishing, hunting or just walking. Vern was the family story teller.

Vern's memorial service will be on Thurs. Sept. 1, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in Downs Funeral Home, corner of Ogden Ave. & 19th St., with Rev. Joel Huenemann officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior. Committal prayers will take place in Veteran's Memorial Park at Greenwood Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435.
