Vicki L. Garro, 65 of Superior, died Saturday December 28, 2019 after a courageous battle with cancer at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth.
Vicki was born on Nov. 6, 1954 in Tomahawk, WI the daughter of Margaret (Albrecht) and John L. Swanson. She graduated from UWS with a double major in Biology and Spanish.
She married Anthony 'Tony' Garro on March 6, 1982 and they celebrated 37 years of marriage.
Vicki had worked as a Clerk for the BNSF Railroad for 20 years. She also taught extension courses at WITC and was a secretary at Darrow Road Wesleyan Church. Vicki was very involved in Zion Lutheran Church, serving in many different roles including Church Council President.
Horses were Vicki's passion especially riding and driving. She was very involved with 4-H for over 25 years serving as a club leader for puppy pals and country explorers. She and Tony were members of the Harness club for 38 years. She served as the President of the Douglas County Chapter of the Wisconsin State Genealogical Society and was a Board Member for the Northwestern Region. She was a volunteer for the Lake Superior and Mississippi Railroad in Duluth.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son Paul Garro, and brother Dennis Swanson.
Vicki is survived by her husband, Tony; daughter-in-law, MaryLynn Garro of Holyoke, MN; grandson, Eryk Garro; sister Julie (John) Sigafus of Pine River, MN; nieces and nephew, Molly (Bill) Jacobson, Tracy (Dan) Rasmussen, Becky (Erick) Venema, and John 'Jack' (Hailey) Sigafus; and many extended family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 3 rd from 5:00 -7:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church with a prayer service at 7:00 pm. Visitation will resume on Saturday, January 4 th at Darrow Road Wesleyan Church from 10:00 until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service with Rev. Mark Holmes will officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
If desired, memorials may be made to the Douglas County 4-H or a charity of the donor's choice.
