Obituary

Virginia E. Clausen, 88, of Superior, died Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at Essentia-St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth.

Virginia was born in Superior on Aug. 16, 1924 the daughter of Gertrude and Harold Dixon.

She began working as a clerk/typist in 1943 at the Globe Shipbuilding Company in Duluth and then for the Conrad Fur Company in Duluth. Following that she worked for the Convair Aircraft Company in San Diego. The job she liked best was at St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth where she was an administrative secretary. After St. Mary's she worked for the Labor Union Local #1050 as a bookkeeper until her retirement.

Virginia loved to dance and she met her husband Tormod dancing at a Sons of Norway party. She enjoyed reading, shopping for gifts and sending cards to her family for every occasion. She enjoyed planning events and having gatherings and parties. She will be remembered most for her undying love and dedication to her family. Her peaceful spirit, kind heart, wisdom, and compassion will live on through all those who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Gertrude and Emmanuel Sutherland; father, Harold Dixon; a brother, Lauren Dixon; a grandson, Robert Latvala; and Beth's father John Dravland.

Virginia is survived by her husband of 49 years, Tormod; two daughters, Beth (Jim) Holmes of Wascott, Wis. and Sharon (Tony) Kelekovich of Superior; a sister, Barbara Larson of Ham Lake, Minn.; grandchildren, James, John, Michael and Christine; step-grandchildren, Heather, Kirsten and Jim; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Her funeral service will be on Sat. Oct. 20 at 1:00pm at Downs Funeral Home, corner of 19th and Ogden in Superior. Chaplain Michelle Robbie of Essentia-St. Mary's will officiate. Visitation will begin one hour prior. Private family interment will be in Swedish Lutheran Cemetery in Bennett.
