Obituary

Virginia "Ginny" E. Hart, 95, of Superior, died peacefully Thursday, November 26, 2015, at the Lighthouse of Superior.

She was born June 14, 1920, in Superior, daughter of Charles and Lempi (Walley) Christianson. Ginny was a life-long resident of Superior, WI.

In 1938 she graduated from Superior Central High School. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from the College of St. Scholastica in 1943, and then her Master of Science degree in Education from the University of Wisconsin-Superior in 1970.

She began her nursing career at the former St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth. She then worked at Gorgas Hospital in the Panama Canal Zone. Upon returning to Superior, she married Burdette Hart in 1946 and they started their family. Ginny continued her nursing career by working for Dr. Weisberg in Superior. In 1957 she became the nursing program supervisor for WITC-Superior until she retired in 1985. During her tenure at WITC, she implemented the change in the nursing program from the LPN curriculum to the Associate Degree Nursing program.

Following her retirement, Ginny enjoyed volunteering at St. Mary's Hospital of Superior for 25 years.

She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star – Superior Chapter # 252, White Shrine of Jerusalem # 11, Lady Trainmen and Royal Neighbors of America.

She was a member of the former Hammond Avenue Presbyterian Church, now United Presbyterian Church, Superior where she was a former elder, deacon and an active member of the former mother's club and women's association.

Ginny enjoyed cooking and spending time with friends and family.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Burdette in 1985; sisters, Charlotte Anderson and Beverly Nord; brother, Wallace Christianson; and son-in-law, John Holmgren.

Survivors include her daughters, Rebecca Kirk, Superior, Deborah (Tim) Bergstrom, Superior, and Candace Holmgren, Plymouth, MN; son, Thomas (Sandra) Hart, Chippewa Falls, WI; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service Saturday, December 5, 2015, at United Presbyterian Church, Superior. Reverend Joel Huenemann will officiate.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to United Presbyterian Church, 229 N. 28th Street, Superior.

Downs Funeral Home, corner of 19th and Ogden, is assisting the family with arrangements.
