William Patrick
Anderson
October 1, 1948 – September 29, 2021
Bill Anderson passed this way just once, but what an impact he had on the people in his life. Everyone who knew Bill has a story about him and lots of people knew him. William Patrick Anderson (Bill or Curly), October 1 st , 1948 – September 29 th , 2021, arrived in Superior in the late 60s as a teenager from Glidden, WI, to attend UW-Superior. He's lived here since. He enjoyed his long career as CFO for Catholic Charities and was well-loved by his employers and colleagues. One co-worker tells of going to see Bill about something business related and ended up gleefully dancing with him around his office. Joyful and fun-loving in his ever-quiet way, that was Bill. He loved to cook and bake, and then deliver containers of soup, loaves of bread, plates of sticky-buns, even jars of dill pickles to neighbors and friends, including the mail carrier. If a friend needed help with a project, Bill would say, "sure; what time should Bill be there?"
Bill loved his kids and grandchildren - daughter Megan (Will) Brown and his six grandchildren of Lakeville, MN; son Michael (Erin) Anderson of Hudson, WI; and daughter Marisa Anderson (deceased). As kids, Bill often had pick up duty at school, but sometimes that meant he would show up in his truck "Old Blue." The kids would hurry out and try to hide so their friends wouldn't see them. As grownups, they cherish those days and laugh. Bill's kids and grandchildren recognize him for the amazing, accepting dad and grandpa that he was. They feel lucky to have had him.
Bill was close to his many brothers and sisters, particularly those who lived in the area – Tom (Mary) Anderson of Superior; Jody Anderson of Duluth; and Paul Anderson of Eau Claire, WI. He was also in close touch with John (Mary) Anderson of Myrtle Beach, SC; David Anderson of Green Valley, AZ; Michael (Mary Evelyn) Anderson of Centreville, VA; Kathy (Pete Kelley) Anderson of Stevens Point, WI; and Stephen Anderson of Palm Springs, CA.
Bill's partner these past four years, Debbie Gergen of Duluth, will miss the guy who couldn't get enough of life. Despite his quiet presence, he was enthusiastic about everything from classical music to curling to biking.
Bill also has a 'family' of close friends that will have Bill stories to buck them up and share among themselves for the rest of their lives.
Nobody expressed themselves quite like this quiet, humorous, generous guy. As is obvious from the first paragraph, Bill most often spoke of himself in the third person: "Bill made four gallons of soup today," or "Bill will be watching God's team this afternoon." Brother Tom, who was close to Bill, objected to an obituary on the grounds that Bill would hate grandiose descriptions of himself. He thinks if Bill had written his own obituary, it would read simply: "Bill says goodbye."
Bill died suddenly as the result of an accident. If you would like to contribute to a memorial fund for Bill, please make your donation payable to the Superior Public Library Foundation. The library can receive donations directly at: 1530 Tower Avenue, Superior, WI 54880.
A tribute to Bill by family and friends will be held Saturday, May 7, 2022 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Barkers Island Inn, Superior. A time of sharing will begin at 3:30 p.m.. We hope you will bring a favorite story to share about this wonderful man who is gone from our lives, but not from our hearts.
