William Charles Berg, 74, of Superior, died of complications from COPD on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at Solvay Hospice House in Duluth.
He was born in Superior on July 5, 1941 to Robert M. and Bernadine J Holmes-Berg. Bill graduated from Superior Central High School in 1959 and served honorably with the U.S. Navy. He was employed by Otis Elevator for 22 years and Fraser Shipyards for 20 years. Mr. Berg was a member of the International Union of Elevator Constructors and the Moose Club.
Bill joined the "WeMissEm" Hunting Club at the age of 14 and marked his 60th year with the club as president in November of this year. He hunted beside his dad, brother and many good friends.
Mr. Berg is survived by sons, William C Jr. of California, Michael R of Superior and James C (Mollie) of California; brother, Robert C (Dianne) of Texas; sister, Juliann M. Berg-Duffy of Superior; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and best friend, Ron Perik of Chicago, IL.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and daughter Raelynn; brother, James A "Barry" and sisters, Jane E Braman and Joan C Berg.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the "WeMissEm" Hunting Club, Ron Perik, Tom Perik, Troy Perik, Bob Finsland, Pat and Mike McCoy.
The family would like to thank Essentia Home Healthcare and Solvay Hospice House for their wonderful care of Bill and his family.
Visitation will begin on Saturday, December 5 from Noon until the 1:00 p.m. memorial service in the chapel at Downs Funeral Home, 19th and Ogden Ave. Superior. Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci of Cathedral of Christ the King will officiate. There will be a get-together at Jack's Bar following the service. Burial in the family plot at Calvary Cemetery will be held in the summer of 2016.
