C. Chambliss
May 24, 1949 – October 21, 2023
William (Bill) Chambliss was born on May 24, 1949, in Newark, NJ. He was the second oldest child of the 5 children of Charlie C. Chambliss, Sr. and Alma Roberts Chambliss. On October 21, 2023, Bill went home to be with The Lord, while in St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth, MN.
Bill attended Newark public schools, and graduated, in 1967, from South Side High School, (now known as Malcolm X Shabazz High School). Subsequently, Bill attended the University of Wisconsin-Superior, graduating with both a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Education and History. His love of sports, especially basketball, led him to playing basketball for the Yellowjackets of UW-Superior. His ventures didn't stop there, as he held several coaching positions. He was head coach at Metro State Community College and taught at West High School in Minneapolis. He also served as coach at Bethel University and Concordia College in St. Paul. His skills and coaching abilities led him to Florida, where for many years, he taught school, coached basketball, and led several basketball camps for youth. Bill returned to his alma mater UWS, to serve as interim Head Basketball Coach for one year. He remained in Superior, WI until his death.
Bill had a very good eye and developed a great knowledge of antiques and collectibles and made many friends along the way. He had a strong faith in The Lord and was generous and caring toward others.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Charlie, Jr., and Walter J. Chambliss. He is survived by his son, Jordan Beau Brown, Minneapolis, MN; a daughter, Christina Lynn Cedeno, Gaithersburg, MD; 3 grandchildren, Kierra (Jordan), Assyria and Amina (Christina); his sister, Esther, St. Petersburg, FL; brother, Leontis (Lee); and a host of nephews, nieces, and great friends.
In his final days, Bill was thankful for all of the people in his life and was at peace with the world.
Special thanks to the doctors and staff at St. Luke's, Essentia and Villa-Marina Health & Rehab and the staff and residents at Phoenix Villa Apts.
Per Bill's wishes, no funeral service will be held, but a Celebration of Life will take place at Vintage Italian Pizza (VIP), 1201 Tower Ave, Superior, WI 54880 on Thursday, November 2, from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., with sharing at 4:30 p.m.
The family wishes to acknowledge with deep appreciation the many expressions of concern, kindness, and love shown to them during this time of bereavement.
