William D. Goddard, 80, of South Range, died Sunday June 19, 2011 at St. Luke's Hospice in Duluth.
William was born in Superior on July 15, 1930 the son of Mildred (Young) and Dwight Goddard.
He married Florence Larson on June 9, 1956.
William was a truck driver for many years and also worked the family farm. He volunteered for the Amnicon Volunteer Fire Department, Civil Air Patrol and Douglas County Rescue Squad. He was also a member of the Farmer's Union and Peace Lutheran Church.
He loved to travel and go camping. He enjoyed taking pictures, especially of eagles.
William was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents: Albert and Betsy Young, and several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and cousins.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Florence, three children: Scott Goddard, Barbara (Glenn) Stahl and Tim (Kari) Goddard all of South Range, six grandchildren, a cousin: Mary Johnson of Sun City West, AZ, a brother-in-law: Alex Larson of Apache Junction, AZ, two sisters-in-law: Lucille Vendela of Superior and Ida Fields of Tehachapi, CA, many nieces nephews and cousins, and his dog, Coco.
Visitation will begin on Thursday, June 23 from 5-7 p.m. in the Downs Funeral Home, corner of 19th St. and Ogden Ave., and will continue on Friday, June 24, from 10:30 until the 11:30 funeral service at Peace Lutheran Church, Poplar with Pastor Greg Gillicksrud, officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Roger Bolk, Raymond Koenen, Tony Ernst, Tom Vendela, Richard Vendela, and Ronald Vendela.
