William "Bill" James Sutherland, 73, of Superior, Wis. died Sun., Apr. 11, 2010 in St. Mary's Hospice, Duluth, Minn.
He was born Apr. 8, 1937 in Superior. He graduated with the Central High School Class of 1955 and resided in Billings Park until he entered the U. S. Air Force of which he was a nine year veteran. Besides being stationed in the States, he also served in England and Korea. In 1968 he graduated from U. W. S. with a Bachelors degree.
He worked for the Hartford Insurance Co. in Boston, Mass. for three years, transferred to Albuquerque, N. Mex. for five years and retired in 1994 from the Hartford office in Minneapolis, Minn.
Bill was a gifted woodworker and had studied in England with a master carpenter. He enjoyed creating intriguingly beautiful spinning wheels.
Following his retirement from Hartford he and Terry bought forty acres in Summit Township, Wis. and together the family cleared the land and built a large workshop followed by the family home. Bill was particularly proud that in helping build the house, Kate found a vocation in carpentry.
Bill is lovingly remembered by his wife, the former Theresa "Terry" Moore; his children, Jeni (Chris) Lidholm of Burnsville, Minn., Kate (Mike Weber) Sutherland of Cannon Falls, Minn. and James Sutherland of Superior; grandchildren, Thomas and Andy Lidholm both of Burnsville, Minn.; a sister, Jeanette (Chuck) Martin of Superior; aunts, Kate Anecki and Annabelle Sullivan both of Superior; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, James W. Sutherland in 1985 and his mother, Isabel (Ward) Sutherland in 1987.
He supported Hope Congregational Church, helping with their annual fish fry.
His memorial service will be Sat., Apr. 17th at Noon in the Hope Congregational Church at 1827 Wyoming Ave. with Rev. Michael Casperson officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service. Committal prayers will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
