Obituary

William "Bill" S. Germond was born in Lancaster, WI on May 14, 1923 and passed away in "his 90th year" on May 6, 2013. A resident of Superior, WI since 1929, Bill attended Pattison School and Graduated from Central High School in 1941.

Bill served our Country in the U.S. Navy as a Signal Man 1st Class and spent four years in the Pacific Ocean and to the date of his death remembered the codes that were used to communicate from ship to ship long before today's technology. Returning to Superior after serving, Bill attended UW-Superior and married Ruth Wolfe , together they celebrated 66 years of true love, partnership and shared memories.

Bill retired from the Superior Police Department in 1985 after serving the Citizens of Superior, WI for 38 years. Bill dedicated himself first to his Family and then to his job climbing the ranks from Patrolman to Inspector of Detectives. In 1970, Bill was named Police Man of the year. He had an amazing recall of the history of the businesses and buildings in Superior. All who worked with him knew of his passion for serving the community and his personal code of integrity.

Bill is a member of Faith United Methodist Church and the Elks Club 409. An avid golfer, he spent many treasured moments "filling holes" and was a member of the Nemadji Golf course Men's Club for more than 40 years. He played a round of golf at the age of 83, his score matching his age, culminating his love for the honor-based sport when he made a hole-in-one.

Bill was an amazing artist in multiple medias, his artistic eye was captured in beautiful watercolors, sketches, hand whittled wood carvings - a skill he said kept the wrist in shape during the winter months from golf. Bill was able to create a home from a house by being an all around handy-man. He enjoyed playing cribbage and spending time with family and friends. Bill loved animals and pampered all of the "grand pets" who surrounded him, especially at the dinner table where treats often fell their way by his hand. Bill's quick wit and quiet wisdom will be missed but well remembered. Bill was an old fashioned man in the best possible definition.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Ruth. He believed that his greatest achievement was the family they raised together, sons William (Vicki) Germond, Steven (Bobbi) Germond and daughter Eileen (Michael) Wallin who will carry on Bill's life lessons and strong values . Bill's presence will be sadly missed by his Grandchildren - William (Wendy) Germond; Steven (Krystal) Wallin and Danielle (Tony) Janssen and special family members, Terri Eslinger (Jay), Sydny Becker, Jakob Hauble, as well as four prized Great Grandchildren - William, Analise, Isabella Germond and Gia Mae Janssen. Bill has one surviving Brother, Joel (Sally) Germond and Sisters-in-law Adrienne and Ginny Germond and many treasured Nieces and Nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Garth and Aileen Germond, His brothers, Garth, Robert, Richard and Sister- in-law Joanne.

A private family service will be held.
