Richard "Rick" G. McDermott, 49, of Superior, died Wednesday, November 26, 2014, at Solvay Hospice House, Duluth, after a long, courageous battle with A.L.S.
He was born December 19, 1964, in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, son of Gary and Valerie (Wickstrom) McDermott.
Rick was an assistant house foreman for Cenex Harvest States, Superior.
His interests included softball, basketball, golf, hunting, fishing and cheering for the Minnesota Vikings.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Gary and Valerie McDermott.
Survivors include his son, Ryan McDermott, Ashland, Wisconsin; daughter, Amy Martineau, Superior; sisters, Cindy (Mark) Hendrickson, Bisbee, N.D., Darcy (Allan) Visger, Minong, Sherri (Jon) Freeman, Duluth, and Kerri O'Brien, Minong; brother, Robert (Peggy) McDermott, Superior; and several dearly loved nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, December 5, 2014, at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th Street, Superior, and will resume at 10 until the 11 a.m. service, Saturday, at the funeral home. Reverend Mark A. Holmes will officiate.
Honorary pallbearers will be Brian McDermott, Darin Hendrickson, Scott, Chad, Richard and Brandon Visger, Joshua and Nathan O'Brien, Reno Daniels, Jon Freeman, Steve Gotelaere, Mark Orville, Byron and Butch Tuura, Troy Orloski, Tony LaValley, Chip Severin, Randy Patrick and Timothy "Ed" Fransen.
