John A.
Hallock
May 21, 1953 – December 2, 2023
John Alex Hallock, age 70, died on December 2nd, 2023, from complications of COVID and Lewy Body Dementia.
John was born on May 21st, 1953, in Elgin, Illinois, to parents Roy and Ann (Ladwig) Hallock. He was the second born son of four boys. He graduated from St. Edward Central Catholic School in 1971, where he played basketball. John would go on to work in many different fields, including as a salesman, newspaper editor, realtor, and finally a writer and small business owner.
He is survived by his wife of forty-one years, Lori, daughters Kate (Blake Platisha) and Maggie Mae (Harlo Olson), grandchildren Eli, Aiden, Axel, Erly, Isla, Harlo, and Trenton, brothers James (Barbara), Robert (Madeline), and William (Jolene), five nieces, and many other extended family members and special friends. John was a steadfast believer in the Lord and, even before illness, looked forward to greeting Saint Peter at the gates of Heaven.
If you asked John, he would have told you he won the lottery on life. He was self-made, moving from the hustle and bustle of Illinois to the great Northwoods of Wisconsin. He worked hard to build a successful business, The Woodsman Magazine, while doing what he loved — he was able to hunt, fish, or walk in the woods every day. He was a loyal husband, and his daughters were the source of his greatest joy.
The immediate family wishes to send their sincerest thank you to the doctors, physician assistants, nurses, nurse assistants, housekeepers, cooks, transporters, special friends Dennis and Diane Alshanski, and anyone else they may have missed, who made John's life more comfortable in his last years. The medical field has always been challenging work, but it comes with even more difficulties post COVID-19. The family is thankful for the additional time they had with John because of the kind folks working at St. Croix Regional Medical Center, Essentia Health-Spooner, North Memorial Ambulance, Regions Hospital, St. Mary's Medical Center-Duluth, Essentia Health Hospice, St. Croix Hospice, and especially Superior Rehab. To the special women who cared for John at Superior Rehab in his final year and a half of life, thank you for loving him.
John's death is a reminder that we simply do not know how much time we have. Chase your dreams. Love your family. As he would often say, "Don't sweat the small stuff!"
Go Cubs Go.
John will be cremated, per his wishes, and his life will be celebrated with a private ceremony for immediate family only.
